Artist's Description
The fires were dangerously close to the beaches on the Oregon Coast. And the smoke was filling the sky. But people were drawn to the sunset on Canon Beach. And the sunset was amazingly beautiful but also dangerous and sad all at the same time. The people just lined up like a chorus line to watch. All were quiet and waiting for the sun to finish its glorious hope filled show. This photo was selected to be displayed at the 2023 California State Fair Fine Arts Exhibit. It was a juried competition judged by award winning California photographers. Over a thousand photos were submitted this year and only a limited number of photos were selected to be included, so I was very humbled to be included this year.
About Marilyn MacCrakin
I love photography because it always surprises me. I like to merge portraits with photos of nature because the process always has unexpected results. I have created scenes giving Mother Nature a voice and a cause. I have created portraits that bring Shakespearean characters to life. I have been lucky enough to win several awards in the Photography and Fine Arts Exhibition at the California State Fair. I have had Editor Favorites on Your Shot the National Geographic Website. My photo "Seasons of Life" was published by National Geographic Your Shot, selected by Maggie Steber for the Nat Geo story, "Not Just a Face..." I have had many of my photos featured on Instagram by Ourfotoworld and PhotowalkGlobal.

Thank you so much Alinna!! It was almost three years ago but I just recently re-edited it to make it the true panorama that is was. I had focused on just the sunset but then I realized the "story" was how all the people had lined up perfectly to watch the smoky sunset! Thanks again for your kind comments!

Amazing scene. We Californians are quite weary of fires. When was this shot, last year? I hope the rain this season help calm things in the Fall.
